Breakfast Ahead
Scientists have been studying the importance of breakfast for years, but the jury’s still out on how essential it really is. So, we’ll start off by giving you some simple advice: if you’re hungry in the morning, eat. Your body’s telling you it needs fuel.
Before you reach for the box, read the label. If you love your cereal in the morning, look for whole grain cereals without additives for a nourishing bowlful. Take a look at the ingredients – many cereals and breakfast bars are ultra-processed. They tend to offer little more than empty calories, a lot of sugar, and artificial ingredients.
Make breakfast worth waking up to. This week’s recipes basically rely on whole foods and fresh ingredients that provide a mighty dose of fiber and nutrients, and less refined sugar. Some only take minutes to prepare, while others can be made ahead and stored (even frozen). And many of these recipes make great snacks that’ll stick with you until mealtime.

Baked and overnight oats
Oats are heart-healthy and have the kind of fiber that takes longer to digest. That keeps you feeling satisfied for longer and stabilizes your blood glucose. And that’s a surefire way to avoid the sugar spikes you get from ultra processed breakfast foods. Baked oats can be refrigerated or frozen.
Chia puddings
Good things come in tiny packages! Chia seeds pack a powerful nutritional punch. And when made into a creamy pudding with just a few ingredients, chia feels like an indulgence. Loaded with antioxidants, these seeds are high in soluble fiber that supports satiety, digestive health, and stabilizes blood sugar levels. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids for heart health and brain function, a good source of plant-based protein, and filled with calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus for bone health.
Greek yogurt
Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt has become a popular household staple, and for good reason. Delicious by itself, it’s also a perfect base for many recipes, from breakfast bowls to baked goods and savory dishes. It can replace sour cream, adding extra nutrition to any food it’s combined with. Greek yogurt also has twice the protein of regular yogurt, is calcium-rich and a great source of probiotics that can reduce inflammation, boost gut health, and improve overall well-being.
And a yogurt topping to tingle your tastebuds! (A staff favorite)
For this decadent whipped Greek yogurt, we use a drizzle of maple syrup for sweetness and a bit of vanilla extract. To stabilize it, we also whip in a teaspoon or two of vanilla instant pudding. Try a dollop on fresh berries and garnish with gingerbread granola (recipe below). It’s good enough for dessert, but healthy for breakfast.
Breakfast bakes
Behold these wonderful, good-for-you recipes that can be eaten warm from the oven, stored for the week’s breakfast, or frozen.
Variations on toast
Toast a slice of whole-grain or sourdough bread – preferably fresh from the bakery – and let the creativity begin. We’ll just leave this tantalizing trend right here and let you decide what’s on your menu.
PS. Sprinkle your toast with hemp hearts, a superhero superfood that adds a nice nutty flavor and essential nutrients.
Good ol’ eggs
Scrambled, poached, shirred, hardboiled, or fried, eggs are always a favorite choice. And a healthy one, too. These days, eggs may seem more like liquid gold in a shell, but there are some tempting ways to get the most out of each. The frittatas and mini quiches can be reheated for the week or frozen.
For the brunch bunch: a toppings bar
Invite family and friends over for a DIY yogurt bowl or fancy toast brunch. Prepare the basic recipe and offer a variety of fresh fruit, veggies, and other toppings—even smoked salmon or hard-boiled eggs for the toast. Of course, other brunch mainstays can be served, too. Oh, and have some refreshing morning mocktails on hand to raise a glass to good health!

Hole-y moley!
Behold the world’s largest donut by weight. This gargantuan chunk of deliciousness weighs the same as 1,500 regular donuts.
Nick DiGiovanni and Lynn Davis created this masterpiece, adding another win to their list of Guinness world records. So, how did they come up with this Barbie doll-pink frosted behemoth?
"After lots of deliberation and even a bit of arguing, we finally settled on the one: the iconic pink frosted Homer Simpson-style doughnut," said Nick to Guinness. "A perfect harmony of doughnut and cake: two of the best foods in the entire world," he added.
Our question: Where’d they get sprinkles that big?
