Welcome to Tapestry

A lifestyle for interesting and active seniors

You recently expressed interest in Tapestry through our website or an expo! We’re a new startup creating experiences, technology, and events for seniors who want to remain active in whatever way “active” means to them. This is our first newsletter to let you know what to expect!

What to Expect

In the coming weeks, we’ll be interviewing and telling the stories of interesting seniors who started something big in their communities, careers, or passions later in life. The answers from our recent survey and meeting seniors at the expo reinforced our core idea that they have fascinating stories that aren’t being told. We hope you’ll share in learning about them.

What You’ve Told Us

We had a great time meeting everyone at the Golden Future Expo in Pasadena a few weeks ago! For those of you who met us in person, you may recall that we asked you to participate in the survey (which we also conducted online nationally).

The survey yielded some interesting results we wanted to share.

Time at a Computer

This was higher than we expected. One third of seniors spend over three hours/day on their computer, and almost as many (30%) spend 2-3 hours per day! What we did not learn was how they are spending that time (but we’ll get to answering that). This confirmed our notion that many senior services companies are in denial about seniors being online and using tech daily.

Interest Groups

This was encouraging. The single biggest interest was almost 80% of seniors wanting physical activity groups, followed by social gatherings at 71% (people could select more than one option). It reinforces that we need to provide activities and events to keep both bodies and communities active. It may come as no shock to you, but this community has no time for games — only 38% said they wanted those.

General Feedback

We also asked people just to tell us what else interests them. Many answered in person or online that they were interested in genealogy, which wasn’t on our radar before but will be now. Interest in physical activity groups was high too, with specific mentions of walking clubs, yoga, and hiking. There wasn't as much interest in dating. But as you might imagine we got several colorful comments on that one we can hold onto for a later newsletter.

We can’t provide any direct quotes out of respect for peoples’ privacy, but this word cloud calls out some of the common themes in our feedback. The bigger the word, the more often respondents said they were interested in it.

Congrats Survey Prize Winners!

Respondents were entered into a drawing for $50 Amazon gift cards. Congrats to Kayla who we met at the Expo, and to Ann who filled out our survey online! You should both have your gift cards in your inbox now!
